Reflex EX-1 Mods
The Reflex EX1 is a single shot blaster that can be bought separately, or in bulk by buying the Attack Unit kit. It is among the smallest blasters Nerf sells, and yet it shoots surprisingly well. It is most similar to the Nerf Eliminator, which shares about the same style and size as the Reflex. The typical mods done to it consist of adding strong spring, and removal of the air restrictor.
The Nerf Reflex is a single shot blaster from the N-Strike series that has decent range, great accuracy, and above all, is very, very small. Able to fit in the palm of the average person's hand, this blaster is muzzle loaded, and cocked via a slide at the top of the frame. Utilizing a reverse plunger system, like the majority of the N-Strike series, the mechanism actually protrudes from the back of the blaster when it is primed, meaning the user never has to guess whether or not the blaster is cocked.
A perfect blaster for a beginner to mod, the internal mechanisms of the Reflex couldn't be simpler. All that is required to disassemble the blaster is a small, Phillips head screwdriver, and the two halves of the Reflex pull apart very easily.
With such a simple blaster, there aren't many modifications that can be made to it, but there are a couple small adjustments that can be done to improve performance. The most obvious alteration to the Reflex is a spring stretching. Removing the plunger's spring and gently pulling it out increases the tension present when cocked, and will result in a more powerful push of the plunger when the blaster is fired. So long as the spring isn't pulled out far enough to be unusable, it's nearly impossible to make a mistake with this mod.
Just like all other Nerf guns, the Reflex is built with air restrictors in the barrel, which reduce airflow and degrade the overall power and range of the blaster. While the small pieces in the Reflex's barrel can seem hard to reach, a standard drill bit can easily clear out the restrictive bits of plastic, and instantly double the blaster's reach.
A fun, affordable blaster, the Reflex is the perfect beginner's project for a Nerf modder. The modifications possible for the blaster are basic, but very easy to do, and a great way for a newcomer to the world of Nerf modding to familiarize themselves with just how the blasters work.
