The Maverick is an affordable, high quality Nerf pistol, that with a little time, can be made even better with do it yourself modifications.

A quick-firing, one handed blaster from the N-Strike series of toys, the Maverick features six revolving barrels that ratchet to the next shot each time the trigger is pulled. The gun is cocked before each shot by an easily reached pull-back mechanism situated just behind the barrel, and the blaster can easily fire off all six rounds within the span of fifteen seconds. Noted for being among one of the more accurate Nerf blasters, the included suction cup darts preform brilliantly, and will stick firmly to nearly any flat surface.

With many Nerf toys, the prospect of modification can seem a bit daunting to a beginner, with many of the pieces fitting together awkwardly, or small, spring loaded components not readily seating back into place. The Maverick, however, is one of the easier blasters for a beginner to try their hand at. The pistol require only a small screwdriver to disassemble, and the individual pieces set easily back into place when the time comes for reassembly.

The basic projects most Nerf modders will want to begin with all have to do with performance. While the Maverick is a formidable blaster in its own right, a few tweaks can increase the power and range of the gun significantly. As with most Nerf blasters, the easiest way to increase the Maverick's range is to simply open up the internal mechanisms, and remove pieces that restrict airflow. As with any air powered blaster, the fewer obstacles to the expulsion of air, the higher the pressure, which increases the power behind each dart. The Maverick makes this mod exceptionally easy, and once you have disassembled the blaster, most of the work is already done. Simply remove the small plastic pieces at the back of the barrel that block airflow, and discard them. To take things a step further, the stems that hold the darts in place can be removed with a pair of wire cutters, and the base of the barrel can even be hollowed out to add even more power.

The Maverick is a great all around blaster. Quick-firing, accurate, and exceptionally easy to modify, no Nerf arsenal should be without this outstanding sidearm.
