Longstrike Mods
The Nerf Longstrike is a single shot blaster from the N-Strike series, and is Nerf's longest blaster, featuring a detachable barrel, flip up sights, and four tactical rails. The newest 'sniper rifle' in the N-Strike series, the blaster has a great, sleek look to it, and is one of the more popular models for modification.
Modding the Longstrike can be a bit of a challenge, and should probably not be the first blaster tackled by a newcomer to the world of Nerf modding, if that can be avoided. With several pieces that require careful prying to remove, and a somewhat crowded internal mechanism, care should be taken when disassembling the blaster.
Unlike most N-Strike blasters, the stock is both screwed together and glued, so careful prying is required to take it apart. Out of the box, the stock is not removable, but some careful sanding on the connecting points can easily convert it so that it can be taken and reattached with a reasonable amount of pressure.
As with other clip-loaded Nerf blasters, there are a few redundant locking mechanisms that can easily be removed once the blaster has been opened. Simply discarding these will make the Longstrike easier to use, and as a bonus, simpler to reassemble.
Of course, the main reason for modding a Nerf blaster is to increase performance, and the Longstrike is no different than any other N-Strike model in this regard. The most important modification to make when looking to increase power and range is the removal of the thick air restrictors that limit the blaster's range. A Dremel tool is ideal for drilling out the barrel and increasing airflow.
The reverse plunger system in the Longstrike can be modified easily with a small wrap of tape to increase spring tension, and Teflon tape around the O-ring will tighten the seal and ensure that minimal air pressure escapes during firing.
Once the Longstrike has been put back together with these simple modifications, the performance is dramatically improved. The removal of the redundant locks on the clip and trigger make the basic functions of the blaster more user-friendly, and the adjustments to the plunger and air restrictors have been shown to increase the range of the Longstrike to over seventy feet.
It can take less than an hour from start to finish, and for any true Nerf aficionado, modding the Longstrike just makes sense.
