Hyperfire Mods

The Nerf Hyperfire is a toy gun that shoots dense foam darts and is made for children ages 8 and up. The Nerf Hyperfire holds 10 rounds of ammunition and is loaded by placing the darts through the barrel of the gun. The darts are positioned in a circular chamber that rotates clockwise and fires at the twelve o’clock position, much like a revolver.

Modifications can be made to increase the shooting power, quiet the firing noise and extend the life of the gun. Modding the Nerf Hyperfire is easy and intuitive and requires the use of only a screwdriver and a pair of pliers.

Nerf guns are spring loaded projectiles. “Priming” the gun stretches the spring generating tension, pulling the trigger causes the sudden release of this tension creating power through the spring’s contraction. Changing the size of the springs or adding springs results in a more powerful contraction,. The springs are directly connected to the chambers that house the darts, so the power generated from the spring is directly transferred to the darts. The greater the tension the greater the contraction and the harder the darts shoot from the gun.

The most popular mods for the Nerf Hyperfire are focused around increasing the power of the gun by modifying the springs. This is achieved by increasing the number of springs in the gun or by replacing the stock springs with more rigid ones. Extra resistance is felt when “Priming” the gun. The more resistance felt when priming the gun translates to more force when pulling the trigger.

When firing the gun the springs makes a humming noise upon contraction, the more powerful the contraction the more the spring vibrate increasing the firing noise. This is remedied by installing a “Silencer Disk” that insulates the vibrations from the springs contraction.

The “Plunger” is the part inside the gun that transfers the power from the spring to the dart. The “Plunger” is the main wear and tear point on the gun. Adding padding to the “Plunger” equally distributes the transfer of force throughout the “Plunger.” thereby increasing the life of the gun.

Not only does modding the Nerf Hyperfire allow you to up grade it’s life and performance, it also transforms the gun from a common toy that anyone can buy directly off the shelf of any toy aisle into something you made unique with your own hands.
