Alpha Trooper Mods
The Nerf Alpha Trooper is a single shot, clip-loaded blaster from the N-Strike series. Compatible with the series' interchangeable stocks and scopes, the Alpha Trooper does not accept any sort of barrel extension. Packaged with an eighteen round drum magazine the Alpha Trooper is a solidly performing high-capacity blaster, which can be greatly improved with a few simple modifications.
The difficulty of modifying the Alpha Trooper is middle of the road, and while the actual mods aren't inherently difficult, the reassembly process can be tricky for first timers. As with most Nerf blasters, a screwdriver is the most essential tool, with a cutting or grinding tool of your choice used to remove air restrictors.
The easiest modifications to make to the blaster is the removal of the trigger and clip locks. The locks are in place to prevent jamming when the blaster is used by someone who isn't familiar with its operation, but with experienced Nerf users, can be more of an annoyance than a help. When taking the Alpha Trooper apart, these small plastic pieces are easily identifiable, and can simply be taken out and discarded.
As with any Nerf blaster, the most important modifications relate to performance. Inside the barrel of the Alpha Trooper are the standard air restrictors that are in place with most Nerf blasters, small bits of plastic that restrict airflow and can be severely detrimental to the overall power and range of the blaster. Once the barrel has been removed from the body of the Alpha Strike, a long drill bit or similar tool can very easily be used to clear out the offending pieces. A dab of glue over a hole in the barrel that allows air to escape and a small bit of Teflon tape around the O-ring of the plunger complete the performance mods, and can double the range of the blaster.
Of course once the Alpha Strike is broken down, any number of aesthetic modifications can be made to suit the user's personal taste, and the sky is the limit when it comes to paint schemes. The only important thing to remember is to avoid painting over moving parts and connection points.
With its large drum clip and “slam fire” capabilities, the Alpha Trooper is a formidable blaster. But just a few minutes with a screwdriver and a drill bit can turn this blaster from formidable to downright intimidating.
